Welcome to the schedule page! Below is a general overview of our weekly summer schedule for classes and programs. Please note that this schedule is subject to change and may vary depending on the class type and student level.
At Astoria Arts we believe that playing music with others results in stronger proficiency compared to conventional music education. Through private lessons and band programs students work toward live performance. Our students grow as individuals by taking the stage with others. While our students work with bandmates, they learn broader life skills like collaboration, compromise and courage.
We start our private lessons between the ages of 6 and 9-years-old. While older students may have an easier time learning to play, students as young as 6-years-old can also learn since the keys of the piano are easy to operate. Depending on the student, even very young children under the age of five can begin to explore the piano. After all, Mozart famously started to play piano at 3-years-old!
If you're just starting out on the Instrument, you will begin with a 30 minute lesson. It will help you gain confidence and build up some dexterity in playing. This way, you won't get burned out too quickly and will still have room for improvement each time you meet with your teacher. If you're trying to learn specific pieces or more complex musical concepts a 45 minute or an hour session will be best.
Though our ensembles and band program students are given performances opportunities which builds confidence and encourage them to set and achieve goals. With more than 50 recitals, concerts, and events by students, faculty, and guest artists each year, performance is an integral part of Astoria Arts Academy artistic life.
Our instructors are performing and touring musicians from tri-state area. Our teachers have graduated from highly reputable music schools and conservatories from all around the world including the Berklee College of Music, The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music and New York University (NYU). Each teacher brings their own unique style of teaching and experience to the piano lesson to help ensure that our students get the best possible piano instruction whilst realizing their full music potential.
Yes, we offer music lessons to beginniers as early as 6. Your teacher will ensure your child also cultivates a love of music, allow them to select an instrument (or singing) and make sure that they have a fun, engaged music teacher who is experienced with teaching young children.
f you’re taking piano lessons, you do need an instrument to start lessons. However, you do not need a full baby grand to start piano lessons. So, let’s take a look at a few of the most popular instruments to find out about your specific situation. However, make sure you ALWAYS see and touch the instrument before buying. Never buy an instrument without having a chance to see how it works and how it sounds.
Purchasing lesson packages is both versatile and economical. Unlike my monthly auto debit program, lesson packages never expire, so you may use the lessons from purchased packages whenever you desire with no restrictions. Lesson packages offer a significant discount over paying for single lessons. The larger the package you purchase, the larger the savings! If you are a full time student (grade school, middle school, high school or college) ask about my student discounts!
